A man is murdered on a remote riverbank, and a young woman confesses to the murder to the police that same night. Forensic psychologist Karla Eckhardt identifies the confessed perpetrator as Anna Lobrecht, whom she had classified as a compulsive liar in a report two years ago. It's possible that Lobrecht isn't telling the whole truth this time either.

The construction of the new community center for a town on the Sognefjord could inspire Agnes' career. Shortly after arriving, the architect meets unexpectedly her long-time childhood sweetheart Kristian again. Although he is now married to the mayor Luisa, flare up between the two old feelings. Why only Luisa selected among many architects just Agnes for this job? It all looks like Luisa has threaded the clash together from a long way. But what is she aiming for?

Kristian suspects his workaholic wife Agnes of 'compensating' him for an affair, ignoring what Luisa only confides in the pastor: probably terminal cancer. Just when Kristian got physical with Agnes again, her city fiance, neurologist Jonas Tjersland, arrives for a surprise visit and soon smells a rat. Drama mounts as the truth becomes inescapable for all.
